Projects - 2008
Olson 40: In preparation for the Regatta Al Sol, Greg Smith has ordered a brand spankin' new light air 155% reacher for his Olson 40, White Trash. Made of Flex-13, this is one of the biggest sails the loft has seen this year. The boat leaves May 15th, 2008 with a full inventory of sails from Schurr. Wish the crew luck!
UPDATE: White Trash won the Racing Division! Congrats to: Greg Smith, Ellis Ollinger, Randall Boudreaux, Rusty Noonan, Brian Harrison, Andy Smith, Seth McGonigal, and Helen Welch (one of our own employees!).
Firebird Catamaran: Several customers from England haveordered a whole bunch of Randy Smyth designed sails for a whole bunch of Firebird Catamarans. 4 mains, 3 jibs, and 2 spinnakers - wow! With carbon fiber mains and jibs, and huge asymmetric spinnakers, these boats are sure to FLY!
Alaska Fast Boats: This company is the only official dealer for the Buccaneer 18 class in Alaska. They have a total of 8 boats in the fleet, and four of them will have full suits of brand new Schurr sails come July 1st! We are all very happy to be helping these guys introduce the Buccaneer 18 to Alaska!
Alden 30: This is the third design by John Alden. This boat is a true classic, with a wooden hull and mast. We are making a main for our customer out of
Melonseed: This boat gets its name from the shape of the hull, as seen from above, which does indeed look like a melon seed. The original Melonseed skiffs were built with the plank-on-frame method, and could be built yourself (they still can!). It was used mostly by duck-hunters in the waters of the Chesapeake bay. These days, a gentleman in Massachusetts builds them in fiberglass. These small, gaff-rigged boats are easy to handle and a whole lot of fun! We are currently building a mainsail for a customer in Georgia, using Tanbark sailcloth. It's a beauty!
TRT1200: These 40 foot catamarans are built for comfort and speed! With great speed potential (up to 20 knots) without heeling, they make for a fun, fast paced, and comfortable day on the water. This order, designed by Randy Smyth and given to us to build, includes a roller furling blade, a spinnaker, and a screacher. Using the latest carbon fiber/taffeta mix technologies, the sporty AirX 900 spinnaker material, and Code Zero screacher cloth, combined with Randy's expert multi-hull design experience, these two will be zipping along in no time.
Elliott 770: Hunter has added another boat to his inventory, and is busy designing a new suit of sails for his most recent addition to the family. With a total of 6 new sails (2 mains, 2 genoas, and 2 spinnakers), Rooster is all set to go.
